    1799 Washington Funeral Urn Medal
    White Metal, AU53

1799 Washington Funeral Urn Medal AU53 NGC. Baker-166C. Variety 4-C2. White Metal. Holed for suspension, as always, these pieces were worn around the neck at Washington's funeral procession. Rulau estimates that somewhere between 35 and 70 pieces are extant today in white metal. This is a pleasing and slightly wavy piece that shows light friction over the highpoints, and these same highpoints display a pronounced darkening of the metal to a deep gray. Otherwise, the fields and recessed areas of the medal are bright and silvery appearing. A few moderate marks are detected beneath a loupe. An important and historic piece of Washingtonia.
