Description

Brass 1820 North West Token, VG10

1820 North West Company Token, Brass VG10 NGC. Breen-1083, W-9250, R.4. The North West Company tokens were redemption tokens used in the Pacific Northwest to be exchanged with the Indians for beaver pelt. A note in the current Guide Book suggests that most surviving pieces have been found in Oregon's lower Columbia River valley. Like the present example, those pieces have a small hole at 12 o'clock and somewhat granular surfaces. The current lot is mildly bright and mostly olive-green an ebony spot above the beaver. Listed on page 78 of the 2013 Guide Book.
