    Description

1903 Louisiana Purchase Gold Dollar, MS67
    Jefferson Obverse

1903 G$1 Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson Gold Dollar MS67 PCGS. CAC. A conditionally scarce example and tied for the finest at PCGS (8/16), this Superb Gem Jefferson Head Louisiana Purchase gold dollar displays a sharp strike and outstanding yellow-gold luster. Some reflectivity is seen in the fields. This was one of two gold dollar issues struck in conjunction with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, held in St. Louis in 1904. The following year, in 1905, the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition was held in Portland, Oregon, with its own issue of souvenir gold dollars. The two events coincided with the 100th anniversaries of Lewis and Clark's departure from St. Louis in 1804, to explore the Western North American continent, and the arrival of their expedition on the Pacific Coast in 1805.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# BYLD, PCGS# 7443)
