    Description

    Gem Quality 1915-S Panama-Pacific $2.50

1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS65 NGC. This is a splendid Gem quality example with lovely orange-gold luster and exceptional aesthetic appeal. Although we are not aware of any specific die variety studies of these coins, we note that at least two different obverse dies are represented among the Pan-Pac Quarter Eagles in the present sale. On this example the flag of the 5 in the date is horizontally even with the top of the S mintmark. Another example, the NGC MS64 coin, has the top of the 5 horizontally even with the center of the mintmark. While we are not necessarily sure that die variety collecting of these coins will ever catch on, it is a nicety of numismatics to pursue such studies.
