Description
Delightful 1915-S Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle, MS67
1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS67 NGC. Unlike some of the other sales projections made by Farran Zerbe, that of the 1915-S Panama-Pacific quarter eagle showed a degree of accuracy, as less than one-third of the mintage of 10,000 pieces (the maximum authorized) was melted as unsold. Still, the net production of 6,749 pieces resulted in few high-end survivors. This enticing Superb Gem is a striking exception. The straw-gold and yellow-gold surfaces offer soft, pleasing luster and lovely visual appeal. While the figure of Columbia and the eagle show a touch of softness on the highpoints, the devices are well struck elsewhere. An amazing and essentially unimprovable exemplar of this first commemorative quarter eagle issue, one of just two struck by the United States.
