Superb Gem 1915-S Pan-Pac Two and a Half
Tied for Finest Graded

1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS67 PCGS. CAC. The 1915-S Panama-Pacific quarter eagle, featuring an obverse design by Mint Chief Engraver Charles Barber, is a fairly modernistic design for Barber, who would pass away two years later at age 77. The figure of Columbia riding a hippocampus, a mythological sea monster with the foreparts of a horse and the hindquarters of a fish. plays nicely into the nautical theme of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The reverse design is more pedestrian, a recycled eagle by George T. Morgan first used on 1877 pattern half dollars.

The present Superb Gem Pan-Pac quarter eagle is one of only 24 submissions in this grade at PCGS, and there are none finer (1/13). Softly glowing, thorough luster radiates throughout each side, complementing light orange-gold gold color and a virtual absence of contact. A prize example of this popular commemorative design.(Registry values: N4719)
