    Description

Superb Gem 1915-S Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle

1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS67 PCGS. This Superb Gem beauty is tied for the finest ever certified by either PCGS or NGC. It is a remarkable example with fully brilliant and highly lustrous yellow-gold surfaces. Both sides are sharply detailed, with numerous fine die polishing lines imparting a splendid satiny appearance. The total mintage of this issue was originally 10,000 coins, but only 6,749 coins were actually sold at the issue price of $4 each, and the balance were later melted for recoinage. Who knows, maybe the gold was used to produce the 1916 or 1917 McKinley gold dollars. Population: 16 in 67, 0 finer (8/06).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# BYLP, PCGS# 7450)
