    Coveted 1915-S Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Octagonal

1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar Octagonal MS 63 NGC. Designed by Robert Aitken, the 1915-S Panama-Pacific 50 Dollar commemorative was produced in both round and octagonal format. Both types have an original mintage of 1,500 pieces plus several assay specimens, but only 645 octagonal examples were sold. The remaining coins were melted at the Mint. An impressive and rare issue, this Select representative is appealing from both technical and aesthetic standpoints. With the exception of a single abrasion on Athena's helmet, the surfaces are devoid of individually mentionable marks. The strike is typically sharp for the issue, and the color is an original green-gold shade. This coin would do justice to the finest commemorative collection. (NGC ID# BYLX, PCGS# 7452)
