Sharply Defined Gem Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle

1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial MS65 NGC. Frosty and attractive. Pale olive-gold toning, with some splashes of golden brown. Although the legislation for the issue provided for a robust maximum mintage of 6,000,000 pieces, the level of demand must have been disappointing to the Sesquicentennial planners because in the end fewer than 48,000 were actually issued; indeed, many tens of thousands were melted as unsold. Of those that survived, a large portion ended up being mishandled in some way, and accordingly, just a small percentage of the Sesquicentennial quarter eagle population can be characterized as MS65.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
