Impressive 1926 Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle, MS66
1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial MS66 PCGS. As the nation celebrated its 150th anniversary, a great celebration was held in Philadelphia, with commemorative half dollars and quarter eagles minted as souvenirs. With high expectations, the Congressional legislation for these coins far exceeded the actual demand. A total of 1 million half dollars and 200,000 quarter eagles were authorized, and the entire quantity of each was actually struck at the Philadelphia Mint, yet only 141,120 half dollars, and 46,019 quarter eagles were distributed, including a small number of each that were examined by the Assay Commission early the next year. This piece, tied for the finest Sesquicentennial quarter eagles certified by PCGS (8/08), has sharp design features with creamy yellow-gold luster and faint rose highlights. A few barely perceptible surface marks are evident on each side.(Registry values: N4719)
