Description
1904 Lewis and Clark Gold Dollar, MS67+
Glittering Registry Set Candidate
1904 G$1 Lewis and Clark Gold Dollar MS67+ PCGS. CAC. A
two-headed coin, the Lewis and Clark gold dollar commemorates
explorations by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark from 1803 to
1806 -- struck in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark Exposition
in Portland, Oregon. Although the centennial exposition drew more
than 2.5 million visitors, just 10,025 1904 pieces were sold at
$2.50 each from a mintage of 25,000 pieces. The 1904 becomes scarce
at the Gem level and it is rare in Superb Gem condition. This Plus-graded Superb Gem ranks among the finest half-dozen pieces certified at PCGS. Lilac and orange highlights add eye appeal to the frosted, rich-gold surfaces. Fine granularity at the legends and adjacent to the portraits adds an extra dimension of luster to the surfaces, typical of die problems that characterize the issue. CAC endorsement confirms the outstanding visual appeal. Population: 3 in 67+, 2 finer. CAC: 9 in 67, 0 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N7079)
