    Description

1915-S Five-Piece Panama-Pacific Set. As the years go by, fewer and fewer complete sets of these impressive coins are encountered. Individually the coins are: half dollar MS 64, bright, satiny luster with a sprinkling of charcoal color toward the rims on each side; gold dollar MS 64, a satin-surfaced near-gem whose primary surface flaw is a tiny grease stain (as struck) on the highpoint of the worker's cheek; quarter eagle MS 62, well struck and showing no mentionable abrasions, just a bit lackluster to grade any higher; fifty-dollar octagonal MS 63, an uncommonly fine and problem-free example of this rare gold coin whose primary deterrent to a higher grade are several small alloy spots and grease stains (as struck), most of which are seen on the reverse; and a fifty-dollar round MS 62, good luster and attractive surfaces overall with several faint slide marks on the cheek of Minerva that prevent a higher grade. This set was bought at the Expo during 1915 and the original 5 piece box accompanies this lot. The set has been stored in a plastic holder for the last 30 years. An unusual opportunity to acquire these five coins as a set.
