Description
Satiny Choice 1900 Lafayette Dollar
1900 $1 Lafayette Dollar MS64 NGC. DuVall 2-C, interesting for its repunched second S in STATES. All legends (except Bartlett on the statue base) were engraved by hand on working dies. The reason for this is unknown, perhaps to meet the Mint Director's production deadline of George Washington's centennial death anniversary on December 14, 1899. This satiny near-Gem has dappled honey-gold obverse toning and lighter almond-gold patina on the reverse. Marks are tiny and hard to locate.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# BYKW, PCGS# 9222, GSID# 10321)
