Description
Prized Gem Lafayette Dollar
The First Commemorative Silver Dollar
1900 $1 Lafayette Dollar MS65 NGC. The first commemorative
silver dollar and the first coin to depict an American president,
the Lafayette dollar is an interesting and impressive coin. The
issue is scarce at the Gem level, because many original owners
purchased the coins as souvenirs and pocket pieces. The present
coin is sharply struck, with brilliant surfaces throughout.
Examples with this much visual appeal are seldom encountered. From The Steven Forcier Collection of U.S. Classic Commemoratives.(Registry values: N4719)
