Pompeo Coppini's Design

1935-D 50C Texas MS68 PCGS Secure. Born in Italy in 1870, Pompeo Coppini emigrated to the United States in 1896, moved to Texas in 1901, and died at San Antonio in 1957. The majority of Coppini's work is found in Texas. After he completed the designs for the Texas Independence Centennial half dollar, the first examples were minted in 1934, and the series continued through 1938. The present Superb Gem is one of the finest surviving examples among 66 Texas half dollars of all years to achieve the PCGS MS68 grade. None are finer. This piece has highly lustrous with brilliant silver surfaces, an above average strike, and a splash of gold toning on the lower obverse.
