Description

1935-S Texas Half Dollar, MS68
Tied With One Other for Finest at PCGS

1935-S 50C Texas MS68 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Bruce Scher. The San Francisco Mint struck 10,000 Texas commemorative half dollars in 1935 (plus eight coins for assay purposes), which were sold at a cost of $1.50 each, or $4.50 for a three coin set that also contained an example each of the Philadelphia and Denver issues. Survivors are collectible in grades through MS67, but at the MS68 level, the challenge of locating a piece multiplies exponentially; PCGS and NGC each have certified only two pieces at this grade, with none numerically finer (3/15). The present piece displays satiny ice-blue luster, with subtle olive-gold and crimson overtones in the peripheries on each side. The strike is bold and the preservation is seemingly unimprovable. A lovely coin that will be a capstone addition to a stellar Texas Independence Centennial half dollar collection.(Registry values: N2998)
