Description

    1936 Cincinnati Half Dollar, MS67
    Attractive Design, Low-Mintage Issue

1936 50C Cincinnati MS67 PCGS. The Cincinnati commemorative half dollars were produced in approximately even numbers at all three mints in 1936, with the Philadelphia issue claiming a mintage of 5,005 pieces including assay coins. Officially, the coins were supposed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cincinnati as a center of music, but no such tradition of musical achievement exists. The coins were actually made for profit by sale to collectors by their sponsor, Thomas G. Melish. Most of the coins were roughly handled at the Mint, accounting for the extensive contact marks observed on many specimens. The issue was distributed to collectors, however, and most of the coins were carefully preserved over the years.

This marvelous Superb Gem displays well-detailed design elements and vibrant mint luster throughout. The well-preserved surfaces exhibit attractive shades of champagne-gold and lavender patina, with exceptional eye appeal. Population: 5 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer (8/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# BYCJ, PCGS# 9283)
