1938-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar, MS68
    Superb Strike and Appeal

1938-D 50C Oregon MS68 PCGS. The 1938 Oregon Trail half dollars were the first to be issued as a set, with coins from all three mints: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. This example is the Denver issue, and apparently it is an early strike with extremely bold devices including full details on the Indian's hands and the high points of the Conestoga wagon. The rims are complete and well-struck. Although the 1938 issues have a reputation for grainy surfaces, this coin is extremely smooth and lustrous. The intensely silver surfaces are tinged by blue and gold toning, with hints of lilac near the rims. An exceptional Superb Gem and certainly one of the finest for its date and type. Population: 40 in 68 (5 in 68+), 2 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N1793)
