Description

1939-D 50C Arkansas MS66 PCGS. A staggering 500,000 coins were authorized for the multi-year Arkansas Centennial issue, but only a small fraction of the authorized quantity was actually produced, and some were melted as unsold. B. Max Mehl was the primary buyer for most of the remaining coins, which he then retailed at higher prices. This brilliant-white example shows a few areas of clear gold overtones and a couple of tiny flecks of deeper color. Just nine pieces are certified numerically higher at PCGS (9/14).(Registry values: N1793)
