Description
1952 Washington-Carver Half, MS67+
Colorfully Toned, Sharp Strike
1952 50C Washington-Carver MS67+ PCGS. The conjoined profile
portraits of George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington are
better struck on this high-end Superb Gem than are usually seen.
This issue was struck from 1951 to 1954 and it marks the end of the
classic commemorative series. Some 3.4 million pieces were
authorized by Congress for the issue, although far fewer coins than
that were actually distributed. About half of the silver for the
Washington-Carver pieces came from undistributed 1946 to 1951
Booker T. Washington half dollars. Overall, the Washington-Carver
coins were not well-struck and were carelessly handled at the Mint,
making high-end Superb Gem examples in great demand today. This
colorfully toned MS67+ PCGS example is boldly struck and highly
lustrous. Concentric bands of gold, blue, and pinkish-red color
provide outstanding eye appeal. PCGS Population for the 1952
Philadelphia issue: 16 in 67+, 1 finer (3/26).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# BYL3, PCGS# 9434, Greysheet# 10395)
