    Description

    1928 Hawaiian Half Dollar, PR64
    Old Green Label Holder
One of 50 Matte Proofs Struck

1928 50C Hawaiian PR64 PCGS. Congress authorized a coinage of 10,000 Hawaiian half dollars in 1928, for a commemorative issue that would become one of the most popular in the classic series. All 10,000 pieces were struck and distributed, and an additional eight coins were produced and retained for assay purposes. Of the 10,000 coins distributed, 50 were proofs, produced with a sandblast finish in accordance with Mint practices between 1908 and 1936. It is believed that all 50 pieces survive today, although PCGS and NGC combined report only 37 grading events. Of those at PCGS, seven PR64 coins are the finest, one of which is the present example. This piece displays the expectedly sharp strike definition and uniform steel-gray patina. The matte luster is unmistakable, and no distracting marks are observed. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 7 in 64, 0 finer (1/20).
