    Lovely 1936 Bridgeport Half, MS67

1936 50C Bridgeport MS67 PCGS. Though the committee that distributed the Bridgeport commemoratives requested P.T. Barnum's portrait for the obverse, the request was made in all seriousness. The speculative mania of the time, however, turned the coin into a joke that wrote itself, with B. Max Mehl, Walter Breen, Q. David Bowers, and even the 2007 Guide Book devoting ink to the irony. The exceptional eye appeal of this Superb Gem, however, is no laughing matter. Soft lavender-gray patina covers much of the slightly satiny surfaces, while arcs of gold-orange patina appear at the rims. Tied for the finest graded by PCGS (3/07).
