1939 Arkansas Half Dollar, MS67
Tied for the Finest Certified and Endorsed

1939 50C Arkansas MS67 PCGS. CAC. When Congress approved the issue of half dollars to commemorate the Arkansas Centennial in May 1934, they likely did not anticipate that the series would span several years. The authorization was for 500,000 coins and the first of those coins were issued in 1935, a year before the actual Arkansas centennial on June 15, 1936. Sales were sluggish and continued through 1939 when the present specimen was one of just 2,104 pieces actually distributed. This Superb Gem is tied with a few others for the finest certified, and it is tied with one other for the finest that CAC has endorsed. Light golden-brown toning appears on both sides of this sharply struck piece, with rich peripheral gold on both sides. A lovely example. Population: 6 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 67, 0 finer (10/19).(Registry values: N4719)
