Description

1892 Columbian With Swiatek Certification as a Proof

1892 Columbian MS 64 Prooflike. Deeply mirrored throughout and brilliant except for the slightest trace of color at the rims. This coin is accompanied by a memo from Anthony Swiatek dated 6/19/81. In this memo he appraises the coin as follows: "Your Columbian 1892 specimen is without question a genuine proof coin, being double struck on a proof planchet and possesses all necessary proof characteristics...In referring to other characteristics, I refer to square rims, double struck stars, rounded denticles forming the beaded border, detail on the portrait of Columbus, as well as the Santa Maria's reverse design."
We are not certain of this piece's status and will simply grade it as MS 64 Prooflike, and leave the final determination to others.
