    Description

Rare, High Grade Proof Columbian Half

1892 50C Columbian PR66 PCGS. One of only 103 proofs struck at the Columbian Exposition in 1892. Very few pieces remain identifiable as proofs today, and all too often the ones that are encountered are impaired. This is a deeply reflective example that displays softly frosted mint luster over the devices, which in turn yields a moderate cameo contrast. As one would expect from a proof, the striking details are uncommonly well defined with sharp definition on Columbus' hair, the ship's rigging, and the planks of the ship. Brilliant over both sides with just the slightest hint of golden patina around the margins. A great rarity that should be of interest to a wide range of commemorative collectors. Population: 4 in 66, 1 finer (5/01). (NGC ID# BYMW, PCGS# 9295)

It goes without saying that after the auction when we had a chance to have dinner together and get to know each other it even made it a better experience for me. I look forward to getting more involved with Heritage in the Future.
