1861 CSA Restrike Half, AU53
1861 50C Scott Restrike AU53 ANACS. Struck many years after the four original CSA halves were coined, these restrikes were produced using the original CSA reverse die and stamping a planed off reverse of an 1861 USA half dollar. The result was predictable, the obverse details are noticeably flattened on all the restrikes. This flattening is especially noticeable on this piece. The surfaces are lightly and attractively toned in shades of lilac-gray and golden-rose and there are no mentionable abrasions on either side.
