    Description

1778 2 Reales J. WALTER Counterstamp. Brunk W-136. This exact piece not listed in the Brunk reference, but most likely the mark of Jacob Walter, the Baltimore, MD silversmith and clockmaker circa 1840. Another counterstamp, a pictorial bent arm and hand holding a cudgel in a circle of leaves, appears on the coin and is possibly unrelated to the Walter mark.
