    Description

    Counterstamped Washington/Lafayette 1820 N-15 Large Cent AU58

1824 Washington/Lafayette Counterstamped 1820 Large Cent, Newcomb 15, Baker 198c. AU58 NGC. Host coin and counterstamp are both AU, with only the slightest rub on the highpoints. The counterstamps appear to be almost dead-center on this very high grade coin. This example is more than two grades higher than the Ford examples that brought $2,200 in the May 2004 sale (number 3, lots 194 and 195, respectively). This could be the finest known example of this scarce and desirable counterstamp. We expect spirited bidding. The current market value is about $1,750-$2,000.
