Description

Exceptional Jose Marti Proof 5 Pesos

Republic gold Proof 5 Pesos 1915 PR66+ Cameo PCGS, Philadelphia mint, KM19, Fr-4. Mintage: 50. Engraved by Charles Barber, the Chief Engraver of the United State Mint, and struck at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, this piece has intricate ties to the USA. The wave of Cuban coinage from the U.S. Mint starting in 1915 is highly regarded in quality condition by collectors, which is magnified on the Proof specimens where emissions such as this were struck in demonstrably low volumes. The present offering is one of the very finest Proof 5 Pesos from 1915 available in a certified state, numerically superior throughout the PCGS population and trailing only a PR67 Ultra Cameo at NGC. Some light orange toning floats about the peripheries among the legends, otherwise this near-Superb Gem piece has been preserved about as well as possible. Not since the aforementioned NGC 67UC piece (in 2018) has a finer specimen of this issue graced our auction block, certainly a consequential coin in the Cuban collecting community.
