Until 1974, only a single large size note was known from the McGill national bank. Today, 5 other examples have been recorded, but this note remains as the only dated back in any denomination. The first issues in 1909 had the signature of William N. McGill, the founder of the town. McGill’s interests included mining and extensive land holdings in three central and eastern Nevada counties. In 1934, this bank was consolidated with the Ely National Bank and later with Nevada Bank of Commerce. As the only known dated back from the bank, this note deserves the "extremely rare" title.
