Description

A valuable and historically significant group of thirty six-pieces of Fractional Currency that comes with a handwritten inventory dated August 25, 1931. The heading of the inventory reads, "List of Postal + Fractional Currency given to Fred M Mitchell of West Newton, Massachusetts," written in pencil. Below this, written in pen is, "Thirty seven pieces of United States of America Fractional Currency issued in 3c, 5c, 10c, 25c, + 50c pieces as issued new from U.S.A. Treasury direct to Richard S. Hurles of Brooklyn, New York. Was inherited by his son Richard H. Hurles and on August 1931 given to his friend Frederick M. Mitchell of West Newton, Mass. Some of the fifty cent pieces are signed by Mr.Spinner, U.S.A. Treasurer. The total amount of thirty seven pieces is $10.01 which is complete set of all the Fractional Currency issued by United States of America." Following this is a detailed inventory of 37 notes.
