Denmark: Christian VIII Speciedaler 1840 MS65 NGC,...
Description
Christian VIII Speciedaler 1840 MS65 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM720.1, Hede-3A, Dav-74. Heart mintmark, no mintmaster initials on reverse. A wonderful Scandinavian Crown-type issue from Denmark that Heritage has offered in Choice Mint State and Choice Proof, but never in Gem Mint State. In fact, this Copenhagen minted variety (1840 dated Speciedalers were also produced at the Altona mint) is the lone certified specimen to reach MS65 at either major grading service. The patina on this piece is gorgeous, classically toned with antique khaki pewter shades and frosted devices that shimmer effortlessly upon viewing. It is also clear upon viewing the care with which the surfaces have been maintained, showing barely any imperfections, just a smooth, glossy canvas one can appreciate with ease. An exciting "Top Pop" selection for Speciedaler enthusiasts. From the Eternal Collection, Part III
