Description

Frederik V Speciedaler 1764-HSK MS63 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM600, Dav-1302, Hede-27B. Hans Schierwen Knoph as Mint Master; Dies by Daniel Jensen Adzer. A fascinating Danish Speciedaler issue characterized by three main bust varieties all for the single date. This portrait type features engraver initials (DIA) at the truncation of the bust and on the left stem above the elephant on the reverse; also Frederik's gaze is particularly wide-eyed and alert. Heritage rarely handles any of the varieties of this issue, with only four occurrences to date, and two being from the previous millennium! The present specimen is a beautiful Choice Mint State piece displaying lightly toned pearlescent silver surfaces and skillfully engraved designs that are a joy to behold in such an advanced state of preservation. Likely one of the finer examples of this portrait variety in existence, extremely compelling as such.
