Superb 1871 Five Cents Copper Pattern, Judd-1051

1871 Five Cents, Judd-1051, Pollock-1185, R.5, PR 66 Red NGC. A practical design that uses the three cent nickel obverse design in a larger format. The reverse has V CENTS in the center with the V reversed, surrounded by a wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This piece, like every J-1051 seen by this cataloger, has the 7 in the date apparently punched over a sidewise 1. Wonderfully preserved with gentle rose and blue-green patina that only adds a little character. Two or three minor carbon spots are noted, one located in the field just above the portrait.
