    Description

    1796 JR-6 Dime, AU50
    Usual Late Die State

1796 10C AU50 PCGS. JR-6, R.3. The die crack through the 17 is diagnostic of JR-6, and a second die crack is characteristic of the later die states, extending vertically through the 8 and drapery to the upper neck, turning left through the hair to star 8. The reverse has several faint die cracks. The JR-6 is the second most common variety among seven known die marriages for 1796. Approximately 30% of all 1796 dimes are from this die pair.
This pleasing AU example has deep gold and bluish-violet toning on the obverse with light gold and iridescent toning on the reverse. Both sides have satin surfaces with nearly full luster. Only a trace of wear is noted on the highest design points.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 236B, PCGS# 4461)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
