Description

Choice AU 1796 Dime, JR-1

1796 10C AU55 PCGS. JR-1, R.3. The usual die state with clashmarks along the profile and a prominent cud beneath star 1. This is a generally lustrous Choice AU example from the first year of dime production. Golden-brown and emerald-green embrace the borders, while the open fields and devices are only lightly toned. Devoid of mentionable marks, and recommended for both its beauty and its quality. Die progression studies of 1796 dimes have come up with four candidates for the honor of first variety struck: JR-1, JR-2, JR-3, and JR-6. We know that JR-4, JR-5, and JR-7 succeeded JR-3.(Registry values: P7)
