1796 JR-4 Dime, XF40
Two-Year Introductory Type

1796 10C JR-4, R.4, XF40 PCGS. The JR-4 obverse die was also used on JR-3, identified by TY touching in LIBERTY, while the reverse has two berries below E1. Sea-green and golden-brown toning embraces this moderately circulated Small Eagle type coin. Abrasions are limited to a thin curved line above the date and a small scuff on the upper forehead curl. The Draped Bust, Small Eagle dime of 1796 was the first year of the denomination, if the extremely rare 1792 disme (struck in John Harper's cellar) is excluded.
