    Description

    Attractively Toned, Mid-Grade 1796 Dime

1796 10C XF40 NGC. JR-6, R.3. This variety is sometimes called the "hyphenated date," as all examples have a die crack through the digits 179 of the date. This is obviously a later die state and the crack is quite heavy through the top of the 7. This design type was only struck for two years, with a combined output for both years of less than 48,000 pieces. This is a popular mid-grade example that will appeal to a large number of type, date, and variety collectors. The surfaces overall display medium density gray-olive toning with a strong underlying presence of rose, while the devices retain a significant portion of original brilliance. An attractive and problem-free example of this first-year type coin.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
