Description

1797 JR-2 Dime, MS62
Condition Census

1797 10C 13 Stars, JR-2, R.4, MS62 PCGS Secure. A Bust Dime Identification Guide by authors Winston Zack, Louis Scuderi, and Michael Sherrill was published last year, and the guide is extraordinarily useful for collectors, providing up-to-date information on all of the individual varieties. For example, the authors note that "as few as three JR-2 dimes are thought to exist in MS condition."

This lovely Uncirculated example exhibits splashes of blue and iridescent toning on its satin surfaces with excellent design definition. The stars, hair, drapery, and feathers are all boldly defined. An exceptional type coin, but more likely headed to a specialized variety collection.
