    Description

Lustrous Mint State 1798 JR-4 Dime

1798 10C Large 8 MS63 PCGS. JR-4, R.3. The four varieties of 1798 dimes are easily distinguished and should be considered four distinctly separate sub-types of the design. They are: 1) Overdate with 16 reverse stars; 2) Overdate with 13 reverse stars; 3) Normal date with a small 8 and four berries on the reverse; and 4) Normal date with a large 8 and five berries on the reverse. The second of these, also known as JR-2, is easily the rarest 1798 dime variety, while this JR-4 variety is far the most plentiful. However, in MS63 grade every one of these varieties is rare and extremely desirable. This piece has a sharp strike with frosty silver luster and ivory surfaces. Both sides are framed by peripheral rose, gold, and blue toning. Population: 2 in 63, 4 finer (10/06).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 236E, PCGS# 4466)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
