    Description

Lovely 1798/7 13 Stars Dime Rarity

1798/97 10C 13 Stars on Reverse VF35 PCGS. JR-2, R.6. This is the rarest of four 1798 dime varieties, and is one of the rarest of all early United States dimes. This is also a separate "type coin" with an unusual reverse star arrangement, having five stars in the top row and six just below. As such, demand exists from several different groups of collectors, including die variety specialists, major variety aficionados, as well as date and type collectors. Of course, this coin will also appeal to overdate collectors.
It is our opinion that this is an important candidate for resubmission, and the prospective bidder should consider the same when formulating his or her bid. The surfaces are very pleasing with an attractive blend of light gray and darker steel color. A few minor scratches are visible on each side, however, these blend in so well with the rest of the coin that they are barely visible. This example has the usual weak centers with much stronger peripheral details. Double clash marks are visible on the obverse with two incuse stars near Liberty's throat. This is an exciting offering that should generate considerable bidding activity.(#4469) (Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 236G, PCGS# 4469)
