1798/97 10C 16 Stars on Reverse MS65 ★ NGC. CAC. JR-1, R.3.
Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. This specimen from the Eric P. Newman
collection and the example from the Ed Price collection are each
certified MS65 NGC, while that grading service reports three finer
MS66 certified examples that likely represent only one or two
different coins. There appears to be a slight planchet clip at 2 o'clock on this impressive Gem. The surfaces have full frosty luster with brilliant centers and splendid toning in rings of violet, blue, and gold. Both sides of this Gem show light clash marks. Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
