Description
Conditionally Rare Mint State 1800 Dime, JR-2
1800 10C MS60 NGC. JR-2, R.5. The two varieties of the year share the same obverse die, but this reverse, rarer than the JR-1 variety, has the first S in STATES centered over the first cloud; and the As on the reverse are wider on this die marriage than the other. The obverse shows a fair number of distractions that account for the grade: light pinscratches from the ear to the drapery, in the right field, and through IB; and some miscellaneous field chatter. On the other hand, the color and luster are pleasing and the coin is well struck, save for the obverse highpoints. One of only 11 pieces from both recognized die varieties to be graded in Mint State by NGC and PCGS combined, as of (6/08).
