    Description

    1804 Dime, Fine 15
    JR-2, 14 Stars Reverse
    Draped Bust Key

1804 10C 14 Stars Reverse, JR-2, R.5, Fine 15 NGC. Ex: Rev. James G. McClure. The 1804 is a much better date. The Guide Book mintage of 8,265 pieces is only a small fraction of its 1805 and 1807 successors. Two die marriages are known, and are of nearly equal rarity. They are separately collected due to differing reverse star counts. JR-2 is the mint-blundered variety with 14 reverse stars. This steel-gray example has bold obverse legends. Within E PLURIBUS UNUM, only the third U is faint. The tops of UNITED STATES show some fading, as do the left-side stars. The obverse has a few hair-thin marks but the overall eye appeal is impressive for the variety.
Ex: The Rev. Dr. James G. K. McClure Collection / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2016), lot 4380, where it brought $12,925. (NGC ID# 236P, Variety PCGS# 38767, Base PCGS# 4475)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
