    Description

    1807 Dime, Richly Toned MS65
    Single Variety for the Date
    Among the Finest Known

1807 10C MS65 NGC. JR-1, R.2. Only one die combination was used to strike 165,000 1807 dimes with the reverse die previously used to strike a few thousand quarter eagles. As a result, nearly all known examples show considerable die deterioration, including clash marks and bulges. Also typical, as a result of the late die state, is peripheral weakness on both sides.
This Gem is far finer than most survivors. While the fields, especially on the obverse, show heavy clash marks, the strike is generally bold with only slight weakness along the left obverse and reverse. All other details are sharp. Both sides have impressive luster with full mint frost, beneath gorgeous gold, blue, and iridescent toning. The surfaces are pristine with few grade-limiting marks. While a small number of numerically finer coins have been certified, the date collector or specialist will do well to consider this piece, presenting exceptional eye appeal. Census: 13 in 65, 3 finer (8/12).(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 236T, PCGS# 4480)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
