    1803 Dime, CAC-Approved AU53
    Rare JR-2 Die Marriage

1803 10C JR-2, R.6, AU53 PCGS. CAC. Of the five 1803 dime die pairings, only JR-3 can be considered plentiful; JR-4 is scarce, and JR-1, -2, and -5 are either distinctly rare, or, in the case of JR-5, essentially uncollectible. JR-2, represented by the present coin, is the only use of this reverse die, which is shattered in the present state. The obverse is shared by the JR-1 and JR-3 varieties. It is uncracked in this use, although JR-3 shows a network of die breaks at the date.

As a date, the 1803 Draped Bust dime is rarely seen finer than the VF grade level. PCGS lists just two coins in Mint State. This CAC-approved AU piece displays an even strike and only light wear. Deep lilac-gray patina with golden and olive accents covers each side. Population (all varieties included): 4 in 53, 8 finer. CAC: 2 in 53, 2 finer (1/20).
