    Description

1795 Draped Bust Dollar, Choice AU
    B-14, BB-51, Off-Center Bust
    Smooth and Partly Lustrous

1795 $1 Draped Bust, Off-Center, B-14, BB-51, R.2, AU55 PCGS. "Bowers Die State II," lightly clashed. BB-51 commands an individual Guide Book entry, as the sole 1795 Off-Center Draped Bust variety. This example shows a hint of wear on Liberty's cheek and shoulder, as well as the eagle's body, but luster illuminates the borders and motifs. No marks are of notice, though minor mint-made laminations are on the reverse rim at 1 o'clock and on the field below the Y in LIBERTY. The peach-gold, lilac-gray, sea-green, and plum-red toning is attractive. Overall, a desirable example of the introductory year Draped Bust dollar, struck during George Washington's first term as President when his residence was a short walk from the First U.S. Mint.
    From The Maurice Storck Collection.
