Description

1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar, VG10
    R.5 Rarity, B-3, BB-11 Two Leaves

1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves VG10 PCGS. B-3, BB-11, R.5. Reportedly the first die pair for the year, this two-leaves variety features the Head of '94 with Liberty's hair showing six main curls, the third one from the top curving downward and touching the fourth curl. A reverse with 16 berries, eight on each branch of the wreath, confirms the variety. The variety is rare, with Bowers and Borckardt noting in their Encyclopedia, "between 50 and 75 BB-11 dollars exist, making this one of the more elusive issues of the Flowing Hair type."

This well-lorn example displays dove-gray centers with deep charcoal-gray margins on the obverse. The reverse is almost entirely dove-gray except for a dark gray toning streak. Smooth wear appears overall, but all of the design elements are complete and the rims are strong. Only a few tiny marks disturb the appealing surfaces.(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 24WZ, PCGS# 6853)
