    Description

    1796 Draped Bust Dollar, VF30
B-4, BB-61, Small Date, Large Letters

1796 $1 Small Date, Large Letters, B-4, BB-61, R.3, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die State I. Nicely defined for the grade and lightly toned, with lilac and golden-gray overtones across the silver surfaces. Glimpses of remaining mint luster are still visible. A few light abrasions dot the surfaces, but the surfaces are pleasant and lively. A mint-caused planchet defect at 3 o'clock on the obverse -- also seen on the reverse -- is a notable, distinguishing mark on this coin, but it does not diminish the appeal. BB-61 is the most commonly available of the six die pairs used to produce the 1796 dollars, from a small reported mintage of just 79,920 coins. (NGC ID# 24X3, Variety PCGS# 40000, Base PCGS# 6860)
