Description

1798 Large Eagle Dollar, AU58
B-27, BB-113, Pointed 9

1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-27, BB-113, R.2, AU58 NGC. Bowers Die State II. BB-113 is a fairly plentiful variety overall, although it is scarce in the upper AU and Mint State grades. Examples are frequently encountered in type collectors' cabinets. This near-Mint representative retains modest luster in the fields and shows sharp devices that have only a hint of high-point friction. Iridescence adds character to otherwise champagne toning that warms each side. We find no distracting adjustment marks, although the reverse rim is slightly weak from 9 to 11 o'clock, as is frequently seen on this variety. The border legends and stars are nonetheless sharp. Census (all Large Eagle, Pointed 9 varieties): 42 in 58, 29 finer (3/17).
